About this site
I had been watching Horie, or Horie-mon as he is popularly called for most of 2005. In the western press he was most famous for his failure to complete the purchase of a baseball team, takeover a television station and a failure to win a seat in an election.
For much of 2005 he became a celebrity on television appearing on a variety of talk and quiz shows. Since he is only about a year older than myself, Horie was living that many ambitious young men and women aspire to - company president, Ferrari driving, luxury apartment, TV celebrity.
His ideas to rejovanate the Japanese econonmy and his ideas to transform business and technology in Japan were well appreciated both by myself and the younger generation.
Horie wore mostly wore T-shirts and was never seen in public wearing a suit. Most Japanese company presidents and politicians are at least 60 years old and usually against any major changes in government or in business.
Whether Horie has done something illegal or he is innocent, I believe he has had a great influence on the Japanese economy and even if he has to spend time in prison I believe he will eventually make a comeback like no other individual has achieved in Japan.
